What different body types are there and which body type do you have?

Which different models of jeans suit you best depends on your figure. Once you know what figure you have and which jeans go with it, shopping becomes a breeze. Not sure what body type you have yet? Below, we share the descriptions to help you find out.

Apple figure / O figure

If you have an apple figure, you have a fuller upper body and slender legs. Your stomach and waist form the widest part of the body, so you have a wide rib cage and your shoulders are the same width as your hips. This means that you naturally have a somewhat rounder figure, hence the name 'apple figure'. It is therefore sometimes called an O-figure.

Pear figure / A figure

The pear figure is a common body type where the hips steal the show. The peer figure is also called an 'A-line' figure. In relation to your shoulders you have broad, feminine hips. A woman with a pear figure often has a slightly longer upper body, a slender waist and full hips and thighs.

Rectangle figure / H figure

If you have a rectangular figure, your shoulders and hips are about the same width. You have little definition in the waist and often women with a rectangular figure have less curves than, for example, is the case with a pear figure or hourglass figure. This figure type is nowadays often seen on magazines and the catwalk, partly because it is easy to dress. You often call a rectangular figure simply a straight figure or an H-figure.

Athletic figure / V figure

The athletic figure is very similar to the body type just mentioned above. The main difference is the presence of muscles: think of the shoulders, arms and legs. This gives the figure a completely different look. You also call an athletic figure a V-figure or inverted triangle figure. An athletic figure is muscular, has little waist and few curves. The shoulders share the same width as the hips.

Hourglass figure / X figure

The hourglass figure is often portrayed as the ideal body type. Hourglass figures are therefore very easy to dress. A woman with an hourglass figure has full curves and a narrow, defined waist. This is emphasized by the fact that your shoulders are the same width as your hips.

What different jeans fits are there?

Before we choose which jeans suit your figure best, we must determine which types of jeans there are. It is useful to know in advance what the options are! You can also easily search the store for that model of jeans that you have in mind, the name of which you may not know yet. It's much easier to find the perfect pair of jeans if you know what you're looking for rather than considering each pair individually.

Fit of the Skinny Jeans model

The skinny jeans are a very fitted model. Skinny jeans often have stretch to a certain extent: skinny jeans that are too tight are not good for your legs.

Fit of the Slim Jeans model

Just like the skinny jeans, the slim jeans are a fitted model. The difference between the two, however, is that the slim jeans are slightly less tight.

Fit of the Straight Jeans/Regular Jeans model

This model is called the straight jeans or regular jeans. The straight jeans have a fitted model at the top. The regular jeans are therefore tight up to and including the buttocks. The legs of the straight jeans are then narrow and straight.

Fit of the Tapered Jeans model

Tapered Jeans are essentially a type of jeans that are in between the Slim Jeans and Straight Jeans. The only difference between the Tapered Jeans model and the Slim Jeans model is that the jeans are a bit tighter at the bottom around the calf and ankles.

Fit of the Baggy Jeans model

In contrast to the models just mentioned above, the baggy jeans are jeans that fall completely loose around the lower body. The unique thing about the fit of the baggy jeans is that the jeans have a lowered crotch.

Fit of the Wide Jeans model

The wide jeans model has a lot in common with the Slim Jeans model. The pants are tight around the buttocks but then become very wide at the legs.

Fit of the Boyfriend Jeans model

Boyfriend Jeans should look like you borrowed your boyfriend's old jeans. It is a loose fitting model where the legs narrow towards the bottom. The Boyfriend jeans hang low on the hips.

Fit of the Girlfriend Jeans model

The Girlfriend Jeans are actually the same as the Boyfriend jeans but a bit more feminine. The trouser legs are slightly narrower at the legs, so that your figure is more visible. Also different from the Boyfriend jeans is that the waist is a lot higher.

Fit of the Mom Jeans model

The Mom Jeans are wonderful casual jeans. It is a loose-fitting, straight model with a high waist. These Jeans also share the same unique feature of the Baggy jeans; Mom Jeans also have a low crotch.

Fit of the Flared Jeans model

This model has long been out of fashion but is now widely worn again. The flared jeans are tight to the knee. Then the trouser legs are very wide from the knee.

Fit of the Bootcut Jeans model

You can compare this model with the Flared Jeans model. Just like the Flared Jeans, the Bootcut jeans are tight around the buttocks and thighs. In contrast to the Flared Jeans, which already flare out from the knee, the Bootcut Jeans only do this from the calves.

Fit of the Cropped Jeans model

This summery model is available in various 'sub' models. For starters, the defining feature of the Cropped Jeans is that it is slightly shorter. Cropped Jeans are usually about one eighth shorter than 'regular' jeans. You can choose Cropped Skinny jeans or Cropped Straight Jeans. The advantage of the Cropped Jeans is that your shoes stand out more. In the winter, Cropped Jeans are less popular because it is not nice to walk with bare ankles in the cold. However, you can easily solve this by putting on (ankle) boots.

What different jeans styles and materials are there?

Now that you know the different styles of jeans, let's move on to the various styles to choose from. The same model of jeans is not only available in all kinds of colors but also styles. You could take several of the same model of jeans in different styles without looking like you're wearing the same pants over and over. A different style immediately gives a different look to the jeans!

Raw Denim Jeans

Jeans with a Raw Denim look have a cool look. Raw Denim is a sturdy and somewhat stiff material that can take a beating. It is also a warm material for jeans for the winter. It is good at insulating heat.

Bleached Jeans

Bleached Jeans can be bleached in whole or in part. Think for example of Bleached Jeans where only the pockets and knees have been bleached to create a nice contrast.

Ripped Jeans / Distressed Jeans / Destroyed Jeans

These are the jeans with the most daring look. The Ripped Jeans, also called Distressed Jeans or Destroyed Jeans, are jeans that have been processed to look "used". These jeans look like they've been through it all. Ripped Jeans, for example, have rips and frays to give them a tough, weathered look.

These jeans models are perfect for an Apple figure / O figure

Have you just discovered that you have an apple figure and are you now wondering what your perfect jeans are? Then it is now time for the answer. For an apple figure, we recommend that we balance the shape of the body. It is best to take jeans that are tight at the top but flare out at the bottom. When shopping, therefore, look for bootcut jeans, flared jeans or straight model. This will make your upper body appear narrower and your legs longer and slimmer. It is best to avoid jeans that are loose at your butt, such as the boyfriend fit. This will achieve the opposite effect. To draw more attention to your legs, you can opt for Bleached Jeans or Ripped Jeans.

These jeans models are perfect for a Pear figure / A figure

If you have a pear figure, you want to emphasize your feminine curves with jeans. Your hips are remarkably wide and you want this to come out nicely. This is best done by balancing the silhouette of your body with bootcut jeans or flared jeans. If you want to divert attention from your hips, it's better to go for jeans without embellishments in this area. In this case it is therefore better not to take bleached jeans, for example, where lighter spots have been created around the hips with bleach. With high-waisted jeans, your beautiful narrow waist is emphasized, while with low-waisted jeans you can choose to put extra emphasis on your hips. After all, they are also beautiful and may just be there.

These jeans models are perfect for a Rectangle figure / H figure

Women with a straight figure can accentuate their beautiful legs with the right jeans. First of all, it is important that you avoid models with a low crotch such as the Baggy Jeans or Mum Jeans. A low crotch makes your torso appear much longer and your legs less long. To accentuate your legs nicely, choose Skinny Jeans or Slim Jeans. However, a slightly looser model such as the Girlfriend Jeans can also look very nice. With a Ripped Jeans you can draw extra attention to your legs. With an H-figure it is best to choose jeans with a normal waist. With a Low-Waisted Jeans or High-Waisted Jeans you emphasize your straight figure. Now, of course, there is nothing wrong with a straight figure; however, most women don't like to emphasize their straight waist.

These jeans models are perfect for an Athletic figure / V figure

As a woman with an athletic figure, you have broader shoulders compared to your hips. You can balance the broad shoulders by choosing jeans with wide legs. As a result, the viewer's eyes do not fall directly on your shoulders, but on your figure in general. Tight jeans cause the opposite effect. In addition, we are happy to give you a tip to look for jeans with a normal or low waist. This makes your hips appear slightly wider. The Boyfriend and Girlfriend Jeans are ideal models for you. Wide Jeans and Straight Jeans would also be perfect for a V-figure. Try bleached jeans with light knees to draw even more attention to your legs.

These jeans models are perfect for an Hourglass figure / X figure

When it comes to jeans, you're really lucky with your hourglass figure! If you have an hourglass figure, all you have to do is accentuate the narrow waist and your feminine curves. Other than that, there's nothing you need to hide. There are therefore no jeans that we would really advise against. Tight models such as the skinny jeans or look great on you because your hourglass figure is clearly visible. If you want to add even more shape to your body, you can do this with Flared Jeans or Bootcut jeans. Because you have clear feminine curves that also stand out to a certain extent in wide models, you can easily wear a Boyfriend or Girlfriend Jeans.

Tips for short women when choosing jeans

If you are shorter than average in height, there are some extra things to look out for besides your body type. As a small woman, you usually want to make sure that you don't look even smaller. The length of the pants is very important here. To cite an example, Flared Jeans or Bootcut Jeans are in most cases very long: often so long that they touch the ground. When you wear this as a small woman, you look shorter. By choosing high-waisted jeans with a high waist, your legs – and therefore yourself – will appear longer.

Tips for tall women when choosing jeans

As a tall woman you stand out in any case. If you stand out anyway, you want this to happen for the right reasons, so make sure that attention is directed to the right places. If you have very long legs, you can go for Straight Jeans or Slim Jeans. In this case you have to be careful with jeans with a high waist; this makes your upper body look too short in relation to your legs. Do you have a long upper body? Then you do want High-Waisted Jeans to make your legs look longer and you should avoid Low-Waisted Jeans. A low waist makes your upper body look longer again.
