How to wash All Stars

By Anne

Washing All Stars; how, you might ask. Everyone probably has a pair of these sneakers in their shoe collection. When you just bought them they look amazing and clean, but sure enough, after a while the first stains will appear. This means it’s time to wash your shoes and luckily for you, it’s really easy. We’ll explain how to do it!

Washing your All Stars is actually quite easy, because they can be washed in the washing machine. You have to be careful how you put them in the machine, however. It would be a shame if you had to buy a new washing machine after washing your shoes. Therefore, we have the following tips for you.

Clean your All Stars first

Before you throw your All Stars into the washing machine it is important to do a little cleaning manually. Especially when they are very dirty, for example after a walk in the woods or after cycling over a muddy road. Throwing very dirty All Stars into the washing machine will give it a very hard time. Of course, very dirty shoes also won’t be very beneficial for the rest of your laundry. You can use a cloth to wipe the worst of the mud off the rubber sole and nose of the shoe. Then you need to check the bottom. If there is still a lot of dirt within the profile of the sole it is best to knock the mud out by slapping the shoes on the floor and then remove the last remnants of mud with a knife. After that, your All Stars are almost ready for a good wash!

Putting your shoes into the washing machine

It is finally time to put your All Stars in the washing machine. First, you need to take out the laces. This is optional, but the laces will become much cleaner if they are washed separately. As an extra protection for your washing machine you can put the All Stars in an (old) pillowcase and knotting it up. Don't forget to include the laces! Now that everything is in the washing machine it's just a matter of adding a little bit of detergent, setting the washing machine to 40 degrees and there they go! When the program is finished you can take them out and wait for them to dry. Extra tip: put a wad of kitchen paper - not newspaper, because that can stain (!) - in the shoes. It can sometimes take a few days for the shoes to dry, but your All Stars will be brand new again.
