Dress like your worth: make your outfit look exclusive

With a regular salary, expensive designer pieces are somewhat unrealistic to buy. Do you still want to dress like you can afford high fashion, so you can look like a celebrity? Then we have ten useful tips to bring the spice to your outfits and give them a more expensive and exclusive look.

1.       Iron your clothes

Ironing is our least favorite task and we are pretty sure you dislike it as well. Sometimes, however, it can seriously pay off. Ironing your clothing and removing creases will make your outfits look new and sleek. Schedule your ironing adventure on an evening or Sunday afternoon. Bonus tip: watch a movie or listen to a podcast while ironing. It will make the task a lot less tedious.

2.      Hang your clothing instead of folding

Do not fold and pile your clothing after washing, and hang it on a clothing hanger instead. This prevents creases and will make your clothing look newer for longer. You will thank yourself when you get to wear smooth clothing every morning.

3.      Wear “expensive” fabrics

When you are out shopping, choose fabrics that look expensive. Clothes made of silk, linen or wool give your outfit a more expensive look. Or boost your cotton or polyester outfit by pairing it with an item made of a fancier fabric, such as leather blazer or wool jacket.

4.      Make sure your clothes are the right fit

Wear clothes that fit neatly on your body. So, for example, don't buy stretch pants that are actually too tight or way too big. 5.      Buy at least one black dress

6.      Only wash your clothing when needed

You probably already know this, but: washing clothing causes wear and tear, sometimes even quicker than you might expect. Of course, if there are stains in your shirt or on your dress, wash it, with the correct detergent. But otherwise, for example if it is not smelling as fresh: simply hanging it outside or in your bathroom while you shower can freshen the items up so you can wear it more often. That way, the colors of your clothing do not fade as quickly and the fabrics will stay stronger.

7.      Invest in good basics

You can buy cheap basics or you can invest in more expensive ones. Basics are items you will wear for years, so paying a couple extra bucks for ones that stay in great condition for longer is worth it. Buy white tops, a sleek white blouse and a pair of sleek jeans, for example. That way you will have basics that you can use for everything in the next couple years and you can combine them with every other item you own.

8.      Choose classy shoes

Yes, sneakers are super comfortable, but they do not always scream “exclusive”. What if you go for a pair of pumps instead? Other shoes that can make your outfit look more expensive are suede boots, heeled sandals and faux leather ankle boots.

9.      Splurge on more expensive accessories

Sure, you can buy five dollar earrings, but do they give you the “exclusivity” vibes? Probably not. Save up for more expensive jewelry and accessories that will complement your outfit. Jewelry made from silver and gold last years before looking less than new. Additionally you will feel great while wearing more expensive jewelry. Do not go for the super expensive brands, but go to a dedicated jewelry store to find something nice.

10.    Apply color theory

You can go for your regular black with white outfit, or you can play around with color theory. Color theory applies all parts of the color wheel, with different hues and tones. Dare to match green with blue, purple with orange and red with pink. You will be surprised how exclusive your looks can become when you dare to play with several colors in your outfit. The only thing to watch out for, is that the clothing items have the same style. A sleek coat with baggy trousers will still look cheap, even if the colors match properly.
