12 clothing tips for petite women

By Nicole

As a petite woman, it's not always easy to find clothes that look good. Especially when shopping online, this is a challenge. Most of the models in the pictures of the clothes you want to buy are at least 5’9! Therefore, certain clothes that look great on tall women may not look the same on short women. Different types of clothing look best on different body types. In this blog we are going to help you find out which clothes look best on you as a petite woman.

Petite women, like tall women, have a more challenging time shopping for clothes than women of average height. The way your body is proportioned also makes a difference: the same garment on a woman with a long torso and short legs looks completely different than on a woman with long legs and a short torso. We would like to give you some tips on how to best dress your body type. If your outfit radiates security, so do you. Of course, this is easier if you know what looks good on you.

Short women's challenges when buying clothes

It is difficult to put on a cool outfit when the first thing people pay attention to is that you are small. That is exactly not the "statement" you want to make with your outfit. Besides, you don't want your height to be the first thing other people notice or remember you for. Of course, you just want to be taken seriously for who you really are. You may have noticed that your height stands out much more in some outfits than others: what exactly is the reason for this? This can be due to wearing horizontal lines, among other things, but also to the shape of your shoes and the length of your jacket. We would like to help you discover which type of clothing makes you look taller and which makes you look shorter.

1. Opt for a V-neck

Do you have a short upper body that you would like to lengthen optically? Blouses and shirts with a V-neck will make your upper body look longer. You won't even notice that you have a short torso. It creates vertical lines that also make you appear longer.

2. High-waisted pants

If you like to give the illusion that you have longer legs than in reality, then you should try high-waisted pants. These high-waisted pants shorten your upper body to some extent by covering part of it. Wear a tight top on a pair of wide high-waisted pants to create the illusion of length while at the same time printing your waistline. This creates a longer but also more feminine silhouette.

3. Of course: high heels!

This tip speaks for itself. The easiest way to create the illusion that you are taller is to put on a pair of high heels. This way you can simply give yourself some extra inches in height. In the process, heels make your legs appear longer and slimmer. Also, high heels in the form of pumps look very neat in a business environment.

4. Monochromatic outfits

Wearing outfits in one color makes you appear taller. This effect is caused by the lack of elements that break the outfit into pieces. In terms of color, your outfit is like a whole. Therefore, the color-blocking trends are not right for you if you are looking for clothes that make you look taller.

5. Flared pants

Would you like your legs to look longer? You can do this in no time by wearing flared pants. These close nicely at the buttocks and run wide from the thighs or knee, depending on the model. This instantly makes your legs look longer and narrower. Pair the pants with a pair of nice high heels or pumps for the best effect!

6: Accessories: long necklaces and chokers

Wearing the right accessories can significantly contribute to how your height is perceived by others. Wearing a delicate choker draws attention to your neck, which in turn makes you appear taller. Long necklaces also give a lengthening effect: in this case, because with them you mimic the effect of a V-neck top.

7: Shorts, skirts and dresses

Tall women often have trouble wearing short skirts and dresses, as these will often fit too short. You don't! Exploit this fact and elongate your legs by wearing short pants, skirts and dresses. Especially dresses and skirts with a slit look great on your stature.

8: Long cardigans

We mentioned in previous tips how wearing and creating vertical lines in your outfits is the short woman's best friend. Wearing a long, straight cardigan open will make you look taller. Don't wear it closed! This will actually make you appear shorter.

9: Short jackets

Unless you plan to always wear a trench coat or parka open, for example, it is better to choose a shorter model coat that comes down to your hips. In the winter, of course, you will want to wear your coat closed, which is why long autumn and winter coats are less suitable for you.

10: Don't hide your ankles

It makes small women look much smaller when they wear pants or skirts that look too long at the bottom. From now on, roll up the bottom of your pants a bit or buy cropped pants. Is your maxi skirt too long? Pull it up towards your waist if it was on your hips before. This way you can create the same effect as in tip 2, but with a skirt.

11: Short hair

You look taller the moment you show as much of your neck and shoulders as possible. So it helps to get a shorter hairstyle such as a bob that falls above your shoulders. Would you rather not say goodbye to your long hair that you have tried your best on growing for so long? Then, of course, you can also put it up in a bun.

12: Pointed shoes

Wearing flat shoes with a round nose will make your feet look smaller and your legs a little shorter. Therefore, it is better to go for a shoe whose nose ends in a point. To get the most out of your pointed nose shoe, buy them in a nude color.
