These men's shoes are a good choice for a job application

A pair of men's shoes for a job application: what is the best choice? Of course, it depends a bit on the company you are applying to and the position you are going for. Still, it doesn't hurt to keep in mind a few general guidelines. We share with you the best tips, both for shoes to wear and shoes that are better left in the closet.

Apply with confidence

A pair of shoes may not make you speak better. At least, not in a direct sense. Indirectly, though, it does have an effect. So are you going to prepare your job interview? Then make sure you choose an appropriate pair of men's shoes, and that you wear an outfit in which you feel comfortable and worth a million bucks. This way you know you can do it, and you can perk yourself up.

4x a good choice: shoes for applying for a job

There are all kinds of men's shoes suitable for applying for a job. So do you have a job application coming up and want to make the right choice? We looked at the different brands and models at the more than 100 online stores we work with. That's how we came up with 4 handy tips for choosing the right shoes for a job application.

1. Smart sneakers

In most cases, a pair of dressy sneakers will make you look good. That is, as long as you are not applying as a banker or for a high-end job. In that case, you will have to choose shoes neater than a pair of sneakers, but we will come back to that below. In all other cases, neat sneakers are well suited. They have to be clean so don't wear the sneakers you had on last weekend to a festival. And are you going for white or another light color? Then make sure they are free of stains so as not to attract unintentional attention.

Furthermore, sneakers do not have eye-catching colors and certainly no laces in a contrasting color. Instead, keep it more subdued, for shoes that contribute to the groomed outfit you are wearing.

Tip: Do you actually want to radiate that you are very confident? Then choose a pair of red sneakers, and take advantage of the red sneakers effect.

2. Men's lace-up shoes

A pair of lace-up shoes is a neater choice than sneakers. So are you doubting whether those shoes will make the right impression? Lace-up shoes are a good choice anyway.  On the one hand, you don't stand out too much with them, while on the other hand, you appear very groomed. That is exactly what it takes, to make a good impression at the company you would like to work for.

3. Patent shoes in some industries

Save the patent leather shoes for industries where it is common. So are you going for the higher end in government, are you applying for a job at a bank or is it some other job where many men walk in slacks or even suits? In that case, patent leather shoes are probably a good choice. Be careful with them at other jobs, because you don't want to be too neatly dressed while applying for a job either.

4. No loafers or espadrilles

Absolutely do not wear loafers or espadrilles when applying for a job in men's shoes. They are way too casual and summery. Save those trendy men's shoes for other occasions, where you may stand out more with the models you choose.
