10 signs you're addicted to shoes

By Simon

Being addicted to...shoes. It's more common than you think. And hey, we have to agree. Shoes are our lust, our passion and nothing can come between that! If you're a true shoe-addict you will probably recognise the following 10 corresponding signs too.

Buying shoes: we love it. After all, nothing beats the arrival of a new pair! Nowadays, there are so many to choose from that we prefer to buy hundreds of pairs (at the same time), each one prettier than the other. If you love shoes as much as we do, you know exactly what we mean. Only sometimes that love goes really, REALLY deep. Here are 10 signs that you are definitely addicted to shoes:

1. Your environment is starting to interfere

When, during a shopping session, your girl- or boyfriend suddenly frantically tries to avoid walking past all shoe shops, or your mother gently starts talking about your 'problem', you know what time it is. Problem? What problem? They just don't understand anything about it. Is there even such a thing as having too many shoes at all?

2. When you meet someone on the street, you always cast a glance at his/her shoes first

And then instantly the following thought pops up in your head: "OMG. Are those brown boots from Steve Madden's new collection!? I scrolled past them while shopping online just yesterday! They really do look awesome in real life… Maybe I should buy them in a different colour in a moment?"

3. But you’ve always already stolen the show yourself

You've already caught someone staring at your feet at least six times in the past half hour. Yeah, take another look. These beautiful puppies were part of a limited editions collection!

4. You always find a reason to buy another pair

It’s always done under the guise of 'it’s an investment for later' or 'a practical purchase'. Even if you have over 50 pairs of shoes, you always find a good excuse to bring home that 51th pair. Moreover, you have a special wish list of all the shoes you still want to buy. And it seems to be getting longer every week....

5. You have matching shoes for every outfit

Yet another reason to save that 51th pair from being ordered by someone who just wouldn’t appreciate them the way you do. After all, you've just bought new clothes and a new pair of shoes should go with them, otherwise your outfit would be incomplete.

6. If you don't buy them during a shopping session, you will buy them on sale

Or you spend hours on the internet looking for discount codes, so you can get free delivery or a 20% discount. Saves you another trip to the city centre and that money you can save for a new pair.

7. You don't have enough storage space for all your shoes

After scoring the 62nd and 63rd pair online, you’re not even starting to get worried about where you’re going to leave these. Sure, you don’t have any space left, but you’ll manage to find a spot. Even if that means you store most of them in their original box, resulting in a room filled to the brim with shoeboxes. The pile never shrinks, as you keep adding onto it and never get rid of any pair. That would be a waste and you’ll never know when you might need them!

8. You spend half your monthly salary on new shoes

Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City can’t compare to your obsession for shoes. Whether you go for just one expensive pair or five cheap ones, you must and will get those new kicks tomorrow. What's more, you bought them online at a steep discount, saving you at least €30. Good job!

9. You've bought shoes more than once 'because they're so pretty'

No one understands why you have multiple pairs of shoes in your closet that still have the price tag on them. But that doesn't matter, because you do. Does no one really see that these gems are not made to be worn? Shoes like these should be cherished. Store them safely in the box and admire them every now and then. Maybe you’re just saving them forever to wear on that one special occasion that will never come. Just looking at them is enough to give you butterflies!

10. You're scared to get your new shoes dirty

Which means you've become a real pro at cleaning your shoes by now. Have you walked through the mud with your new boots? You immediately grab a cloth or brush. Want to wash your white Converse All Stars so they look like new again? You've got this. At this point stains might be more scared of you than you are of them.
